We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Japanese musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto at the age of 71. Sakamoto was a true pioneer in the world of music, pushing boundaries and breaking down barriers throughout his illustrious career.

Born in Tokyo in 1952, Ryuichi Sakamoto began studying music at a young age and quickly developed a passion for creating and performing. He rose to international prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a member of the influential electronic band Yellow Magic Orchestra, which combined pop music with experimental sounds and technology.

In addition to his work with Yellow Magic Orchestra, Ryuichi Sakamoto also had a highly successful solo career and collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists across different genres and disciplines.
